Legalizing recreational cannabis in Canada has transformed many people's attitudes almost overnight. Seeing the plant sold in so many storefronts and hearing casual cannabis talk has helped reduce negative stigmas, and more people than ever are trying it out.
However, there are things to know about each form of cannabis consumption. If you've never tried cannabis edibles before, read a few tips to help have you have a safe and fun time.
Unlike consuming cannabis via vaping or combustion, edibles usually take an hour or more before you feel the effects. This is normal! Don't get impatient and up the dosage before the effect kicks in, or you're liable to take more than you need.
It's best to take an edible and stick to that dose for the day. If it wasn't strong enough, you could take more next time. If you take too much and feel anxious or uncomfortable, don't worry! You'll be safe. Just find a place in your home to relax until it wears off.
It's easy to find information about safety and various products for buying edibles online in Canada, so you don't even have to leave the couch to get quality products and info.
It's impossible to say how each person's body will react to cannabis edibles until they try it out themselves. Everyone's body, tolerance levels, and the experience they're seeking may be different.
There are general rules of thumb, but anyone trying them out for the first time should appreciate that their reaction may be unique. Edibles contain different levels of THC, expressed in milligrams. Generally, 1-2.5 milligrams of THC may cause mild relief symptoms and is suitable for first-time users or people looking to microdose.
An edible containing 2.5-15 milligrams of THC may lead to stronger pain relief, euphoria, and impaired perception and coordination. Those taking 30-50 milligrams of THC can expect strong euphoric effects and significantly impaired perception. This level is suitable for people with high tolerance levels or those whose GI systems don't absorb cannabinoids well.
Anybody taking 50-100 milligrams of THC in one sitting should be an experienced, high-tolerance THC user. If you're unsure of where you are on this chart, go slow and start low. It's better to begin with an amount you feel comfortable with and increase it incrementally until you find your sweet spot.
One safety concern surrounding edibles is the fear that kids may see what they think is candy and eat it, not knowing it contains cannabis. Just like with alcohol, it's crucial to store cannabis edibles safely so kids don't consume them accidentally.
Usually, cannabis edibles come in a child-proof container. Be mindful about how you store your edibles. You may have children over in your home one day, even if they aren't yours.
Cannabis edibles are a safe, discreet way for people to consume cannabis. Whether using them medicinally or for recreation, keep the above tips in mind to have a safe, enjoyable experience.
