As the saying goes, sometimes it's not what you know, but who you know. Entrepreneur KJ Vanderwerken says it's a combination of both - however, connecting and building relationships with the right people can make all the difference in your success, and bottom line. 'Tom Brady gets much praise for his seven Super Bowls, and rightfully so. However, no one can win alone. He's had great offensive lines. He's had phenomenal coaches throughout his career. He's played with some of the best receivers. Business is no different' KJ explains. KJ has worked hard connecting with other high level and successful individuals. And his current net worth of $2,500,000 would back him up.
Building together: Many times, it's collaboration over competition. There are several areas people can work together to create win-win situations. KJ's real estate investing company, VanDerwerken Properties is a great example of that. 'I've been able to build relationships over the years with a phenomenal outside team of contractors, plumbers, electricians, carpenters, etc. When we're flipping or updating our investment properties, we already have trusted people in place that we know will get the job done with top quality, speed, and service. On the other side of things, I've became friends and partners with dozens of investors who are ready to jump in on opportunities our firm presents to them'.
Expanding your contact list can bring in new clients, potential partners, business opportunities and individuals that will help with your personal growth. Many studies show you become the sum of the people closest to you. So, positioning yourself with positive, successful people is a great step to improve yourself. Mr. VanDerwerken has spent years building his network. From hundreds of networking groups both online and in person, traveling to business conferences, to thousands of conversations over lunch or coffee. 'You never know what opportunity will present itself, or how you will be able to mutually help each other.'
Networking can be tremendously beneficial, but it doesn't come easy. You must look for the right people. Connecting with people in your industry, or that will complement your business is important. This can be done through your friends, professional connections, university alumni, groups or now online. Social media platforms such as LinkedIn or Instagram can be phenomenal ways to grow your network. One must be pro-active in their networking.
'The cost is almost nothing, and the returns can be massive. I've met some of my best friends to this day through networking. I've met mentors who have helped me grow and turn into who I am today. I love people. Everyone is so different and has something amazing to bring to the world. Creating scenarios where we can build and grow together is always the goal' KJ says. Throughout the years, KJ has amassed a huge network, a following of over 44,000 on Instagram alone. Feel free to connect with him, and possibly build something together!
