It is vital that you choose the appropriate kind of paper to go with the writing implement that you like. Paper does not all have the same qualities or functions for which it was manufactured. The use of a fountain pen and paper is a time-honored method of communicating one's thoughts and ideas. It is crucial to select the proper combinations of pens, inks, and paper to match your requirements and preferences since there are so many possibilities to pick from for each of these things.
When it comes to paper, there is a wide variety that is compatible with fountain pens. Listed below are some of our top picks for available alternatives.
The 90gsm paper produced by Clairefontaine, which is made in France and is renowned for its very excellent quality, is compatible with a wide variety of writing implements. There is a tremendous variety of Clairefontaine notebooks available to choose from. There is a Clairefontaine notebook that will meet your needs, whether you like pads, spiral notebooks, or notebooks with stitched bindings.
The fact that Clairefontaine's paper comes from forests that have been verified as being sustainable and that it is produced with consideration for the natural world is an added plus.
Everyone must get their footing at some point. A top quality paper that is developed for fountain pen nibs and inks is essential for writing lines that are crisp and clear, as well as for preventing bleeding and transfer. However, just because the paper is excellent does not imply that it has to be costly. Especially if you are just getting started with your experience with fountain pens.
Rhodia has been manufacturing high-quality paper products continuously since the 1930s. In 1997, Clairefontaine completed the purchase of Rhodia. It should come as no surprise that both of these companies are included on our list since, similar to Clairefontaine, the paper quality offered by Rhodia is exceptional. Because of their silky feel, fountain pens slide effortlessly, making them an excellent choice for first-time users as well as those with more expertise. Because there is no bleedthrough nor showthrough, you are free to write on either side of the page without compromising the readability of your writing.
Its firm cardboard base, distinctive orange or black cover, and micro-perforated sheets make it the ideal tool for sketching things out. The cover comes in either orange or black.
In the realm of stationery, Leuchtturm1917 is a well-known and respected brand, and their reporter notepad is no exception to this rule. This A6-sized lined reporter's notebook has a comfortable feel in the hand, making it ideal for those who create lists often and are constantly thinking while on the go. This notepad is equipped with a hard cover and a thread stitching binding, making it simple to open with one hand.
The rear pocket has room for expansion, making it ideal for storing receipts. A table of contents page, an elastic clasp, 188 numbered pages, and stickers for labeling and archiving are included in the reporter's pad that comes with all of the features offered by the Leuchtturm1917 brand.
Rhodia, like Leuchtturm1917, has its own devoted fan base comprised of creative types who will not use any other kind of notebook. Often referred to with endearment as "the webby," The Rhodia Webnotebook has 96 pages that are created out of acid-free and pH-balanced ivory paper that weighs 90 grams per page. The book is protected with a cover made of Italian leatherette and has rounded edges. It is threat bound. When they are empty, these notebooks will look incredible arranged in a row on a shelf somewhere.
Are there papers that are overly smooth? If you're a fan of writing on a paper that isn't overly slick, then Clairefontaine paper may not be for you. A simple notepad would be interesting to compare against the Clairefontaine Triomphe, which I've used in the past and found to be incredibly silky. As a result, I decided to test out a Clairefontaine Basic clothbound notebook. What follows is my take on the situation.
This paper stands up to its reputation in the real world. What a silky ride! When you touch it, you instantly realize how much smoother it is than ordinary paper. It's a joy to work with. The faint violet lines on the paper don't interfere with writing at all, and different inks have no problem adhering to them. After a number of usage, the notebook should lie open on its own, however this is not guaranteed. To ensure your notebook stays closed while yet allowing for some expansion, the elastic band isn't too tight. This means your notebook should stay closed without any issues.
"Can paper be too smooth?" is the question I began with, and I believe the answer is yes. I'm OK with writing on Clairefontaine paper, but I also enjoy a little of feedback while I'm writing. The smoothness of the paper became to be too much after a few pages of writing. It's not a deal-breaker for me, but I can see how it would be for others. Nonetheless,
The Clairefontaine Basic clothbound notebook, on the other hand, is an excellent deal. There is no financial penalty for buying the paper and then discovering that you dislike the way it feels in your hands. I'm sure you have a pen pal who would love to take it off your hands, too.
For fountain pen enthusiasts, this notebook is a wonderful deal and performs extremely well in almost every area of importance. Most pens and inks will have no problem writing on this surface. With this notebook, you may have a taste of Clairefontaine paper at an affordable price.
A notebook is a standard piece of equipment for the majority of authors, and it may be purchased in a wide variety of formats. Blesket Canada offers a broad variety of notebooks that are suitable for any situation and need, so whether you want to scribble down some ideas while riding the bus or take extensive notes in class, you can find what you're looking for at Blesket.
