It is remarkable how much we can accomplish through our cellphones in today's times. Today's smartphones can do everything from organization to email correspondence, image and video capturing, to GPS navigation.
However, like the conventional versions, one of the basic functions a smartphone performs is making and receiving calls, and if your phone is not able to perform that function properly, it can be quite irksome. For instance, if you are trying to make or receive calls but cannot hear the other person, it can be vexing.
Similarly, if the audio associated with other phone functions, including alerts, alarms, incoming messages or listening to music, does not perform, that may pose a significant problem.
The phone audio issue may be attributed to a minor glitch in the app or software, or the phone may have been exposed to dust or debris.
Luckily, there are a few quick fixes you can consider before you go to phone audio issue repairs to get your smartphone fixed or head out to buy a new phone to replace the old one. Continue reading to learn a few ways you can try fixing your smartphone, whether Android or iOS.
Sometimes a minor glitch in the phone can cause the audio to malfunction and can be fixed simply by restarting the phone. So, before attempting anything else, reboot your phone and wait for at least 15-20 seconds before turning it back on. There is a strong likelihood that once your phone is turned back on, the phone speaker may be back to sounding normal again.
At times, if you had plugged headphones into the phone at some point and taken them out later, the phone continues to stay in the headphone output mode. This issue can occur if your phone has not processed the event of headphones being taken out of the audio jack. You can reboot the phone to see if the problem resolves on its own.
You may also need to check the audio volume level on the phone. For instance, if you have an android phone, you can turn up the volume level using the volume button on the side of the phone. You can also open the audio panel on the screen if you hold the volume button down and click on the down button on the screen to expand the panel. Once open, increase the volume to the desired left by swiping on the right.
Similarly, if you have an iPhone, go to the phone settings and open Ringers and Alerts under the Sounds section. Once you are in, swipe the slider to the right to turn up the volume. If the sounds are resumed on the phone, it implies that the issue has been resolved. However, if not, continue reading to learn what other methods can be applied.
You can use headphones to see if the phone sound is working. If your phone does not have an audio jack, you can pair the phone's Bluetooth with wireless headphones. If you can hear the sound clearly on headphones, it may indicate a problem with the hardware of the phone; for instance, there could be a problem with the phone speakers or some electrical issue.
Another step we recommend is to check if your phone is, by chance, on Do Not Disturb mode. If you have enabled this mode on your phone, even by accident, all the incoming notifications or calls on your phone will be silenced. You can toggle the mode off by referring to the phone settings.
Do not despair if the issue is not yet resolved. There are a few more checks you can run before referring to the phone audio issue repairs. Let's find out.
If, by any chance, your phone's Bluetooth is enabled, the sound from your phone may be heard on the device your phone is paired with. If that is the case, you can disable the Bluetooth to get your phone's audio working again.
The next recommended repair method for phone audio issues is checking the phone's speakers. Sometimes, external particles, dirt or debris may get lodged in the speaker and compromise the phone volume. Use a flashlight and carefully examine the jack from the inside. If you find any particles, try removing them carefully. However, if there are small dirt particles, you need to be extra cautious while removing them to avoid irreparable damage.
Similarly, if you had accidentally dropped your phone in water or any other liquid, it may have gotten inside the speaker, causing the audio issue. If this is the case, you will have to wait for the phone to dry up completely before checking if the audio has resumed or not.
Switch off your phone, clean it with a soft cloth and put it in uncooked rice or blow hot air to ensure the moisture dries up. Turn the phone on once it is completely dry.
Sometimes a software update or a newly installed application may hinder the phone's audio performance. If that is the case, you can resolve the issue by opting for the requisite update or deleting the app that is causing the glitch.
If all fails, reset the phone and restore it to the default settings to see if the audio is back to sounding normal again. However, before resetting the phone, save a backup of your phone to avoid losing important data, pictures or videos.
If you have followed through with all the recommended methods mentioned above and the phone's speaker is still not working, you can bring your phone to Wireless Solutions and Accessories.
